This Thursday evening I am going to be playing a live acid house set in the basement of Huckle where there is a record shop called Shake The Foundations.
This is an evening discussing the birth of the scene at The Hacienda.
This is the official blurb on the event:
It’s time to jack your body, as we rave back in time for a trip to Manchester’s legendary Haçienda nightclub. All three of our guests were present at house music’s big bang and will be in conversation sharing their memories and thoughts on the era and its legacy. Suddi Raval will also give a brief talk on the history of the Roland 303, followed by a live acid house set.

@peterjwalshphoto was the Haçienda’s go-to photographer, capturing the burgeoning acid house scene in Manchester and the North West during the 1980s, documenting one of modern Britain’s most influential cultural movements. His archive includes shots of iconic nights at the Haçienda, early acid house events and the dynamic energy of ravers and DJs. Walsh’s work offers both artistic depth and a crucial historical record of a transformative cultural movement in Britain.

With roots in the legendary Haçienda, @suddiraval has been part of the Acid House scene since its inception. As one half of Together, he had a UK Top 20 hit with ‘Hardcore Uproar’ and has since released multiple EPs under various aliases. He’s scored over 100 video games, including titles like Spider-Man, Star Wars and Harry Potter. He is the author-illustrator of A Brief History of Acid House and also taught music production and dance music history at the Brit School.

As the first female section editor at NME (1986–1991), @helen.c.mead championed new acts and covered the rising acid house and Manchester scenes. Later headhunted as Assistant Editor at i-D, she penned the first piece on DJs as producers, having also sparked the creative link between Andrew Weatherall and Primal Scream. In ’93 she launched Trance Europe Express, helping define the techno scene and curating the first dance stage at a major UK festival. As a UK ambassador for Berlin’s Love Parade, she announced the DJs on the main stage at the Siegessäule before over a million people at the millennium. [photo by Jayne Houghton]
